Canada….

Hello from the largest city in British Columbia, although not the Capitol, that is where we were the last two days…Victoria on Vancouver Island.

We took a ferry on Saturday…our two week trip anniversary….from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria. The ferry ride was 90 minutes and Mackenzie was allowed on deck. We enjoyed beautiful views and a slightly chilly breeze. Mackenzie was the hit of the ferry adored by every kid who saw him, he got his fill of petting and hugs!

We arrived in Victoria and decided to take a scenic drive along the coast. The neighborhoods were amazing, beautiful houses overlooking the water. We found ourselves at the University of Victoria…no coincidence we keep finding our way to University Bookstores! The funniest thing about the University was that there are rabbits everywhere and not your traditional wild rabbits, there are white ones, black ones, mixed ones that look like Dizzy J! It seems sometime ago they appeared and have become almost the mascot of the University. The guy at the bookstore said they have been around several years although unclear where they came from. My guess was a lab escape of some sort!!

We then headed to Metchosin where our RV Park was. It was the nicest place we have stayed to date. Right on the water and SUPER clean bathrooms! In case it wasn’t clear before we shower at the RV place. I took a shower in the RV once, which was fine but a little tight and then you spend as much time drying everything as you did showering. We dropped off our excess luggage (our cargo carrier on the back) and headed back into Victoria for some delicious fish and chips and beer at a local pub. We were sooo full we decided to walk it off by heading over to see Parliament. As I said Victoria is the capitol of British Columbia so this is a working building. Mack and Ted took some time to play fetch on the grounds!

The next day we went to the Butchart Gardens, over 50 acres of georgous gardes, including a Japenese Garden, Rose Garden and the Italian Garden. Mackenzie was actually allowed so he toured with us. We then drove up to the harbor town of Sidney and had a beer overlooking the marina before we headed to the ferry for Vancouver. The Vancouver ferry was HUGE! 4 car decks and 2 passenger decks. Unlike the Victoria ferry Mack had to stay on the car deck but people could go back and forth from up top to the car deck. So near the end of the ride we headed down so I could get dinner stuff ready so we could eat sooner than later once we arrived. Too funny to be chopping garlic in my RV on a ferry in Canada…who would have ever thought!!!

So here we are in Vancouver. We had a great day today exploring the city. We started off by taking a drive through Lord Stanley Park, the central park of Vancouver, which is bordered by the Sea Wall, which was the actual Sea Wall which has now been turned into a walking, biking, etc path around most of the city. We then drove along the coast and again found ourselves at a bookstore, University of British Columbia to be exact. A very pretty campus just south of the city. Next stop was Granville Island to visit the Public Market which was great! We had a delicious bowl of Red Snapper Chowder and wandered around looking at all the veggies, meats, seafood, and treats. Never knew there were so many types of salami until today! Then we hit the shops to get our full set of 2010 Winter Olympic gear…sadly neither of us knew Vancouver is the host city until today! After some shopping and wandering it was back to touring the city, next stop China Town and Gas Town. Both neat little areas, must say though we were spoiled by China Town in San Francisco. We ended our day with some yummy seafood at a restaurant back in Lord Stanley Park…we went full circle!

Tomorrow we plan a quick stop at Grouse Mountain and the Capilano suspension bridge before we begin our journey towards Jasper and Banff. Tomorrow night we are stopping about 6 hours from here to get us closer and then Wednesday we will get to Jasper.

Happy Birthday to Matt!

Love Us
PS Thank to the Healeys for finally inspiring us with a name for the RoadTrek....the HMS Comfort!!!

That was a long posting, I have so many comments - where do I begin?

Of course with the rabbit - oh how I miss your annoying little rabit who would eat my telephone cords and poop in only my room...so many wonderful thoughts enter my mind - i best keep them to myself...he he...

Canada looks really pretty - I especially liked the selection of salami's...

Last but not least, I think we should start a pool on how many random sweatshirts, t-shirts, and shorts M&T will come home with from this trip (so many college bookstores - so little time)...my guess is 65...who's in???

Christina...I know you secretly still miss Dizzy, I thought of you when I posted the pictures of the bunnies hopping freely about!!

We picked you up some random college gear but one of the rabbits chewed through the bag, pooped on it and then chewed it up! Sorry Mack wasn't quick enough to save it!

Keep me posted on the pool, although I guess it would be cheating for me to enter or let you know the count to date.

Thanks for inspiring me to post a comment on my own blog...LOL!!

Love M

I'm in for the pool and I say, Maria (8), Ted (25) for a combined total of (33), and yes, I did that math all by myself! Do hats count?

Dizzy (R.I.P.) never really warmed my heart...the cage, the smell, how he would suddenly jump on you when you didn't know he was there...ick RABBITS. Of course, maybe they INSPRIED Maria & Ted!!!!!

Maria, do you have my flight numbers and United confirmation I fw: you? Can you send it back to me?-- United seems to've lost my Miles Plus # and I can't see our itinerary.

Hi Maria & Ted,

The salami looks great, it's lunch time here, and I have always been a big fan as you know.

Christina's pool idea is a good one. I know you guys are space constrained so I will tone down my guess accordingly. I'm going to say 25.

I have passed along your blog link to Juli... we are having dinner w/ Veenu tonight in the city before Veenu heads to France for vacation.

Saw Karen Tues night for dinner which was fun... we took Ruby to the local toddler park for the first time and took turns with her on the swing set.

Did you guys have the chance to check out Whistler?

-Joan

Hats should also count - good call Kathy...

The only question is that does the winner of the pool have to use the money to buy stuff for Ruby, or worse more college parafinalia for M&T?

For those of you who don't know the winner of the Ruby Ann pool spent all the winnings on Ruby. Very thoughtful - but truth be told I would taken the winnings and treated myself to an amazing dinner at Oceanaire...I guess I am going to hell!!!

I guess it's good that Ruby can't read yet.

Of course, it's a good bet that a couple of the items M&T will be buying on their way to 65 (!) will be for Ruby so I guess that will be a consolation prize when Christina is enjoying her dinner at Oceanaire.

Surprisingly, people across the country, on their own initiative, have started emailing their bets for the HMS Comfort road trek purchases. I've already set up the Excel spreadsheet, as well as a PayPal account for people to pony up on the five bucks (lesson learned from the last pool...): https://www.paypal.com/hms

Surprising categories are popping up socks, handkerchiefs, ... Greg is aggressively betting all on boxer shorts with the university emblem prominently on the ass.

I spoke with M&T yesterday, and Ted informed me that they stopped at 3 more college bookstores in their travels through Canada since the last blog entry - so many sweatshirts - where will they all fit? By the time they meet up with Kathy in Colorado they will probably be draging a uhual trailer hitched to the back of the Roadtrek...

Sorry Greg, I didn't ask about "boxer shorts with university emblems prominently on the ass," but I promise to get the inside scoop next time. As your goddaughter I feel it is my responsibility to help you overcome your 2nd place finish in Ruby's pool with a victory in the M&T College Gear Pool.

Hmmm, where to start. Ditto - awesome pitcutres. Ditto - who gets a pet rabbit? They aren't very "pet-y." I always love a betting opportunity - but I probably owe Judy $5 from the Ruby pool, and I still think there was some last minute shananagins (Greg, you were robbed:)). Wait a second, I didn't know you were extending invites to folks to join the honeymoon... I wanna come too!
